Playback singer Shaan (@singer_shaan) has given his voice to so many songs, it is difficult to get an accurate account of his anthology.
Shantanu Mukherjee was born in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh on 30 September 1972. As a child he sung jingles for advertisements. He and his sister Sagarika began singing together and entered the Indipop scene, recording for the successful albums Naujawan, Q Funk, and Roop Tera Mastana produced by the Magnasound recording company.
Shaan's first solo albums - Loveology,Tanha Dil, and Aksar - were well-received with Tanha Dil earning him the MTV Asia Music Award for best solo album in 2000. His style earned him various titles such as the "Golden Voice of India",'"Voice of Paradise", "Magician of Melody", and "Voice of Youth".
He began his Bollywood playback career with "Musu Musu Hasi" and "Wo Pehli Baar" from the 1999 film Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi. In 2001, he did playback for two Shah Rukh Khan films: "O Re Kanchi" (Asoka) and "Allay Allay" (One 2 Ka 4). That same year he sang two numbers for Dil Chahta Hai -- "Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe" and "Woh Ladki Hai Kahan" -- which were picturized on Saif Ali Khan.
Shaan's singing style earned him top recognition in Bollywood, including: Zee Cine Award for Best Male Playback Singer for "Suno Na" (Jhankaar Beats, 2004); Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback singer for "Chaand Sifarish" (Fanaa, 2007); Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award for "Jab Se Tere Naina" (Saawariya, 2008); and IIFA Award for Best Male Playback Singer for "Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh" (3 Idiots, 2010).
Other popular songs performed by Shaan include: "O Humdum Suniyo Re" (Saathiya, 2002); "Kuch Toh Hua Hai" (Kal Ho Na Ho, 2003); "En Panchhiyon" (Koi... Mil Gaya, 2003); "Shikdum" (Dhoom, 2004); "Ladki Kyun" (Hum Tum, 2004); "My Dil Goes Hmmm" (Salaam Namaste, 2005); "Main Hoon Don" (Don: The Chase Begins Again, 2006); "Bum Bum Bole" (Taare Zameen Par, 2007); "Om Shanti Om" (Om Shanti Om, 2007); "Kuch Kam Roshan Hai" (Dostana, 2008); and "Let it Be" (Desi Boyz, 2011).
Not limiting himself to film, Shaan has also had an extensive career on television. From 2000-2006, he hosted the musical reality game shows Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs. He also hosted the singing competition Star Voice of India and Star Voice of India 2. From 2009-2010, he lead "Shaan's Strikers" in the music reality show Music Ka Maha Muqabla, an extremely popular team competition featuring the industry's renowned singers.
Shaan's latest venture takes him onto the silver screen in a film titled Balwinder Singh… Famous Ho Gaya! to costar with fellow playback singer Mika Singh. The film is currently in post-production.
