Jolly LLB tells the story of Jagdish "Jolly" Tyagi (Arshad Warsi), a struggling defense lawyer trying to make a name for himself in the Indian judiciary system. He gets his "big break" when he discovers some trial oversights in a case recently won by respected litigator Tejinder Rajpal (Boman Irani). He decides to pursue those loose ends and have the case reopened. However, he soon discovers that there is more to winning a case in the court of law than what happens in the courtroom. He decides to confront the confident Rajpal, who tells Jolly what's what:
Rajpal: For every case I've won, the opposition lawyers have hung my portrait in their chamber. They send me gifts for Diwali. ... People will say that since he is fighting against Rajpal, he must be good. It makes their career ...
Jolly: My thoughts are a little different. If other lawyers can make a career out of losing to you, defeating you will transform my life.
Rajpal: I haven't even begun fighting this case and yet that's what you think. You are a nobody. A nobody. What can you do?
Jolly: I hail from Meerut. If I want to, I can turn your life upside down.
The confrontations between the two lawyers continue to excalate. At one point in the courtroom, Jolly gets so incensed with Rajpal that he yells, "I'll slap you so hard, all your descendents will turn out deaf!"
The closing song of Jolly LLB highlights the tension between the two lawyers as well as any system that focuses more on money and power than truth and justice. The lyrics of the song "Jhooth Boliya" can be translated as:
Tell me if I'm wrong.
Tell me if I'm wrong. If it comes to spending anyone would declare himself broke.
But even the penniless would have a bank account in Switzerland.
They call others thief and ask for a share from it.
But if they get a chance to commit theft they would grab the opportunity.Tell me if I'm wrong. Not at all.
Tell me if I'm wrong. Not at all.
Tell me if I'm provoking someone. Not at all.
Not at all. Not at all.Water and electricity are in shortage but not the girls.
When the King is foolish, his kingdom has no future.
Politicians have a feast and go to bed.
Democracy is acclaimed everywhere.
They say India is shining with the elections nearby.
And the innocent people get nothing but the price hike.Tell me if I'm wrong. Not at all.
Tell me if I'm wrong. Not at all.
Tell me if I'm provoking someone. Not at all.
Not at all. Not at all.Hey, move, watch out, sir.
Hey, move, watch out, sir.
Hey, move, watch out, sir.
Hey, move, watch out, sir.People get social on the Internet, but care least about their neighbors.
Everyone boasts about charity and all. They dress as a sage and move about in cars.
In return for a huge amount of fees they give you a piece of paper called your degree.
And college says, no go out and find a job, if you can.
Everyone talks about romance and love from their hearts.
If you need him everything is fine otherwise chew him up and spit him out.Tell me if I'm wrong. Not at all.
Tell me if I'm wrong. Not at all.
Tell me if I'm provoking someone. Not at all.
Not at all. Not at all.Hey, move, watch out, sir.
