One of the joys of Bollywood over Hollywood is the film music - often designed to get you up off your feet to dance and sing along.
This is particularly true for the song "Love Me, Love Me" from the 2009 Prabhu Deva action thriller film Wanted. The song was written by the composer duo Sajid-Wajid and is sung by Wajid Ali and Amrita Kak.
The song is picturized on the two main characters at the point in the film when Radhe (Salman Khan) and Jhanvi (Ayesha Takia) come to terms with the knowledge that they are mutually in love with each other.
Several elements make this song a chartbuster:
- the powerful synchopated drumbeats make it a fun and engaging dance number;
- the lyrics - a mix of English and Hindi - make it easy to sing along;
- the broadway style set and costume design make it fun to watch; and
- the entertaining choreography - by dance-master Prabhu Deva - does a great job of leveraging Salman Khan's performance style.
"Love Me, Love Me" is so popular that the music company T-Series not only posted the main video but also a remixed version posted (two years later) which includes scenes and outtakes from the film.
