Indian cinema is known not only for creating unique stories, but for creating remakes from a variety of sources, adding Indian cultural sensibilities to the story. Because Indian cinema reflects multiple styles, cultures, and languages, successful films in one market are often remade in others. And some of the most innovative stories come out of the Telugu and Tamil film markets.
Besides revising the storyline of films to reflect regional cultures, the soundtrack is redone to reflect the target audience expectations, the revised storyline and the actor styles. One of the downsides of a Bollywood-produced versions of Tamil or Telugu films is that the Hindi versions often eclipse the originals in distribution. If you find a Bollywood film you like, I encourage you to view available Tollywood and Kollywood versions as well. Plus, the actors in those markets are just as outstanding.
The bottom line is, a good story is a good story. And the following five films - mostly of the action genre - have great stories that have generated one or more remakes. If you are new to Bollywood, consider checking out these action films.
