Disney has been very successful at converting their animated films into stage productions (think Lion King and Beauty and the Beast).
So, it was no surprise that after a third viewing of the Disney Pixar film Inside Out, our companions gave us the following challenge:
If Inside Out were a live action Bollywood film, who would you cast?
After some careful thought, here is the cast we would select for a live action version of the film:
Already part of the family as the star of Disney's Khoobsurat, Sonam Kapoor has abundant energy and enthusiasm that ensures she can always look on the bright side in a variety of circumstances.
In Khamoshi: The Musical, Company and Water, Seema Biswas has portrayed sadness with authenticity and strength. She can also portray the awkwardness that this role calls for.
With films like Wanted and Singham under his belt, we know that no one gets crazy mad like Prakash Raj and he can add just the right sarcastic edge to his anger. In a recent Twitter poll, fans unanimously named Prakash Raj as the best actor to portray the villain "Gabbar Singh" if the 1975 film Sholay were to be remade today.
Whether it's threats from zombies (Go Goa Gone) or from misunderstandings (Delhi Belly), Vir Das' characters have had a lot to be fearful of. Besides bringing a quirky comedic flair to the character, his breadth of experience with danger make him an excellent choice to keep Riley on her toes.
Able to size you up in a single glance, Katti Batti's Kangana Ranaut can be brutally honest and opinionated when it counts.
From Heyy Babyy to Rowdy Rathore to Baby and Brothers, Akshay Kumar has portrayed fun father figures who enjoy spending time with children. He provides for his family and when the going gets tough, he slows down and takes time to listen.
Stepping into the role of a mother in We Are Family and Bewafaa, Kareena Kapoor is our choice for Riley's mom. She also has a great on-screen chemistry with Akshay Kumar which makes her a great choice to nurture and have fun with her family as they experience their new home.
Though she played a mute girl in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Harshaali Malhotra shared her thoughts and emotions through her eyes and facial expressions. Though a bit on the young side now, she would be perfect for the role of Riley in a few years.
And last, but not least ...
There's really no other choice but Shah Rukh Khan for this brief but memorable cameo. Any time spent in the presence of "The King of Romance" definitely creates a cherished core memory.
