Ranveer Singh unveiled the first official poster for his highly anticipated film Bajirao Mastani today. Keeping in line with the grandeur and scale of the film, the larger-than-life poster - hung from a building in Mumbai's Film City - was 60 feet long.
Ranveer Singh mesmerised his fans, who came from all across Mumbai, by taking selfies with each one of them. The crowd cheered and hooted for him throughout the event.
This year celebrates the 315th birth anniversary of the great Maratha warrior. Born on 18 August 1700, Bajirao was a general who fought and won over 41 battles. He also served as the prime minister ("Peshwa") to the fourth Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shahu Raje Bhonsle from 1719 until 1740. Bajirao died at the young age of 39 from a sudden fever.
An outstanding soldier and leader, Bajirao was loved by his troops and his people. He is credited with expanding the Maratha empire and fighting for the establishment of the Hindu empire. Bajirao is considered the most influential of the nine Maratha prime ministers who served the Maratha Emperors between 1674-1818.
Bajirao Mastani - produced by Eros International and Bhansali Productions and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali - stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra and is set to release worldwide on December 18.
